Health Services that are provided at Catholic colleges reflect the same sort of care that is offered at most universities, public, private, or state. There may be some additional health services that reflect the Spiritual identity of Catholic colleges.
Basic health services are almost always available at any college, including Catholic colleges. This usually looks like a clinic or nurse's office that can treat basic injuries, illnesses, or health concerns. They may also offer some preventative care in the form of vaccines or flu shots. Additionally, some college clinics/nurses may be able to do health screenings or physical exams. On occasion, if the clinic or nurse is unable to do the screening, some universities will bring in an outside party to do physical exams for a day and students can opt to be seen by the provided physicians.
Most (if not all) Catholic colleges, like other colleges, will also offer a counseling or mental health department. This is free for students, and they can receive group or private counseling or therapy, and in some cases can even be diagnosed by college counselors. From issues ranging from stress management to crisis intervention and mental illness, the counseling department is there to help, heal, manage, and assist with strategies to improve symptoms/thoughts.
Some Catholic colleges may have wellness or health programs that exist to educate students on how to live a healthy lifestyle. These programs can provide information on proper nutrition, exercise, sleep hygiene, mental health awareness, and much more to promote good overall health and understanding.
Catholic colleges may also provide spiritual health services, which are not commonplace at other universities. This can look like spiritual mentors, pastors, campus ministries, and event spiritual counseling.
Catholic colleges provide many of the same health services that other colleges and universities provide, including some that are more focused on the spiritual health of students. However, not ever college will offer all of the same health services, so be sure to inquire with an admissions officer or check the website of the Catholic college(s) you are interested it.
