What kinds of extracurricular activities are available?

Catholic colleges are very similar to most colleges in the sort of extracurriculars that they offer students. While not every Catholic college will offer the exact same extracurriculars, but there is a good chance that any Catholic college will offer some of them.

Catholic colleges often have athletics teams, both competing for the school (such as the varsity soccer or basketball team), and as part of intramurals. Intramural teams typically are comprised of groups of students from the same campus who play against each other for fun. Intramural sports typically offer an array of different sports throughout the year, some of them overlapping. Most colleges with intramural clubs offer the basic sports, like soccer, volleyball, basketball, and flag football. Some even offer more unique options, like field hockey or ultimate frisbee.

Another type of extracurricular that may be offered at Catholic colleges are Academic clubs or associations. Examples of this could be an honors society, or departmental clubs, such as a club for psychology majors. Other examples could be a debate club or public speaking club.

Religious clubs are also common extracurriculars at Catholic colleges. This includes Campus Ministry, whether as a participant or serving on the team. Bible study groups also fit into this category. At Catholic colleges, with such an emphasis on diversity, it is not uncommon to find religious groups for students of other beliefs as well.

Another possible extracurricular that students might find at Catholic colleges would be cultural or international clubs. These can be clubs that research the different cultures of the world, or perhaps clubs that focus on learning new languages. Sometimes these are clubs that focus on the culture and cuisine around the world, which often includes tasting said cuisine.

Student government is another kind of extracurricular that is common to just about every college, Catholic colleges included. Student government interacts with school policy, event planning, and other various tasks, like fundraising. Student government officials are typically elected by the student body, so being a part of this extracurricular is difficult and requires some campaigning.

Other extracurriculars include things like art or drama clubs, music clubs, writing clubs, or clubs that are devoted to specific interests. These are often student-run, but occasionally the college will oversee them.

Not every Catholic college will offer every type of extracurricular, and some will offer more unique options. To find out what sort of extracurriculars are offered, check the website and with the admissions department of the Catholic college(s) you are interested in.
